‘Ee sala cup namade’: Twitter goes berserk as Faf du Plessis named Bangalore captain

After all the speculations, Bangalore have finally revealed the name of their skipper. The team will be led by Faf du Plessis in the upcoming season. The name though does not come as a surprise as most of the fans predicted Faf to lead the team. The franchise was looking for a new captain as Virat Kohli stepped down from the role following another trophy-less season.

Faf was roped in by Bangalore after a huge bidding war with Chennai for a price tag of INR 7 crores. Faf has been a long servant of the yellow brigade but the franchise had to let go of him due to the retention policy. Du Plessis was in staggering form in the last season and played a pivotal role in the team’s run to the title.

Speaking about his credentials as a skipper, Faf has been one of the best skippers for South Africa. Under his leadership, the team made it to the semifinal of the 2014 20-20 World Cup. Faf led South Africa in 36 Tests, 39 ODIs and 40 T20Is, leading them to wins in 18 Tests, 28 ODIs and 25 T20s respectively.

Meanwhile, the Bangalore fans will be hoping that the change in captain bring change in fortunes for them. Twitter went berserk as soon as the revelation was made by the franchise.
