 ‘Batting from another planet’ – Fans react to Durban Super Giants’ 37-run win over Joburg Super Kings in SA20

Heinrich Klaasen played an innings of his lifetime as he helped him win the game on a tough pitch to bat on. Durban Super Giants on Monday beat Joburg Super Kings by a margin of 37 runs.

It was a dominating performance by the home team as they outplayed the visiting side. it was yet another humiliating loss for the Super Kings after their loss by 98 runs to MICT in the last game.

Faf Du Plessis saw his opposite number Keshav Maharaj win the toss and choose to bat first. It was a track that was not favourable for the batter as the bowlers took complete command of the game.

Joburg Super Kings lose yet another game

Quinton De Kock and Matthew Breetzke failed to get going falling cheaply to Joburg Super Kings bowlers. The pair had batted well last game to give their team a rousing start. Veteran De Kock fell for 3, while JJ Smuts was out for 6 and Breetzke was dismissed for 13.

Wiaan Mulder and Keemo Paul scored 12 and 17 but the momentum was in favor of the visitors. Heinrich Klaasen then came to the crease and began the rebuild as he took the attack to the opposition. The 41-ball knock of 64 came with 7 crisp fours and two huge sixes.

Lizaad Williams bowled with pace and captured four wickets for 26 runs from four overs. Durban Super Giants ended their innings at 145 runs on the board. From the outset, it looked like a difficult wicket to bat on and it was proved right. Two wickets in two overs by Keshav Maharaj turned the tide for the home side. Faf Du Plessis fell first for 7 followed by Ronan Hermann for 6. Reeza Hendricks kept going despite wickets falling at the other end. The right-handed batter was out for 38 when he was caught by Keemo Paul off Gleeson.

Veteran Moeen Ali tried to bring his team back into the game but he didn’t receive much support from the other end. The 37-year-old was finally out for 36 and help Durban win the game and move to the top of the SA20 table.
