The Bangalore franchise locked horns against the five times champion Mumbai side in the fifth match of the 16th edition of the Indian T20 League (ITL) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The Bangalore side won the match by eight wickets and former India skipper Faf Du Plessis was awarded the Player of the Match award. The home team skipper, Du Plessis won the toss and elected to bowl first. The visitors, while batting first, lost the wicket of their skipper Rohit Sharma early in the game.

The Men in Blue skipper was able to score only one run in the 10 balls he faced in the innings. After Rohit’s wicket, the batting collapse continued for the most successful franchise in the ITL. Players like Suryakumar Yadav, Cameron Green, and Tim David were not able to score big for their side this time around as they were able to score only 15 runs, five runs, and four runs, respectively.

The Mumbai side finished the first innings with a score of 171 runs. The highest run scorer for the visitors was Tilak Varma, who scored an unbeaten knock of 84 runs from 46 balls, which included nine fours and four sixes. All-rounder Arshad Khan also played a crucial unbeaten knock of 15 runs from nine balls with one six. For the Bangalore franchise, the pick of the bowler was leg spinner Karn Sharma, who snapped two wickets in his spell of four overs, where he conceded 32 runs.

While chasing a target of 172 runs, the Bangalore franchise openers Kohli and Du Plessis thrashed the Mumbai bowlers, which have the likes of Jofra Archer, Jason Behrendorff, Green and Piyush Chawla. Both of them put together a partnership of 148 runs in the 14.5 overs before the 38-year-old was dismissed after playing a brilliant knock of 73 runs from 43 balls with five fours and six sixes. Kohli scored an unbeaten knock of 82 runs from 49 balls, which included six fours and five sixes.
