Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja’s partnership stand helped India reclaim their position over the West Indies at 288 for four at stumps on Thursday, the first day of the second and final Test. After being put in to bat at Trinidad’s Queen’s Park Oval, India batted well until falling in the afternoon session. Rohit Sharma and Yashsavi Jaiswal started strongly before eventually falling after lunch.

During the West Indies Test series, the former India skipper, who is playing his 500th international match, and Caribbean wicket-keeper Joshua Da Silva have been frequently conversing. Nothing rude or disrespectful, but the two cricketers have been friendly buddies to each other during the Indian innings in Dominica and now in Trinidad.

Get your 100, Virat: Joshua Da Silva

Unlike many youngsters, the Caribbean wicket-keeper is also a fan of the 34-year-old batter. Da Silva, like any other wicketkeeper, would be justified in disrupting Kohli’s focus at the crease. But nothing in his words implied malice, simply appreciation and thankfulness for the opportunity to connect with his favourite opposition batsman.

The former India skipper, for one, has been more than glad to turn around and say something with a huge grin on his face before recovering his focus for the next ball. The 34-year-old great has recognized when to draw the line and not let the nonsense go to his head. Joshua Da Silva said, “Get your 100, Virat.” “Virat Kohli replied, “you’re obsessed with my milestones?!” The West Indies wicket-keeper further added, “I know I am, I want you to get your 100.”

The 34-year-old also broke Jacques Kallis’ record and became Test cricket’s sixth-best run-scorer. Since was the 100th Test between the two sides, both the captains were presented with unique mementoes by the great Brian Lara before the game began. Despite being winless against their opponents for more than 21 years, the West Indies still lead India 30-23 in Test victories across 99 matches. India will definitely turn things around and close the margin.
