Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree will be FromSoft’s biggest expansion
Fromsoftware recently revealed the upcoming expansion for Elden Ring named Shadow of the Erdtree. The expansion is set to release this year in June and is reportedly the biggest expansion by the company.
In an interview with Eurogamer, game director Hidetaka Miyazaki said, “Shadow of the Erdtree is our largest expansion to date in terms of overall volume.”
The recent trailer revealed new areas, bosses and a lot of other things. As per Miyazaki, the expansion will take place on a new map. “Shadow of the Erdtree will offer a denser and richer level design, which will bring those elements of the game world together a little more seamlessly,” he added.
Poison Swamps are back!
One of the trademarks in souls type games by Fromsoftware are the poison swamps. These are large areas inflicting poison status. Players need to cleanse the status effect time and time during fights. The base also had some little sections, however, it wasn’t there on a large scale.
The clarification was also provided by Miyazaki, who said there would be a poison swamp because he simply loves creating them. It gives players something to worry about while exploring and fighting.
“It was only after creating the game that I realized I really like to create poisoned swamps, and this was a little place of introspection and reflection for me. So maybe, when players reach the poisoned swamp in the DLC, they will feel a little bit of this retrospection,” Miyazaki said.
Story continuation
While many players enjoyed the game, the story always felt left out, especially for Miquella and Malenia. The reveal also shows us a little glimpse of Miquella that has fans excited. As per the trailer, the expansion will also reveal more of the lore.
All in all, Shadow of the Erdtree is shaping up to be one hell of an expansion. Players will surely get another great run and possibly uncover the remaining mystery in the game.
