The 24-year-old English all-rounder Sam Curran was an important part of Chennai’s title-winning effort in the Indian T20 League 2021. In the last two seasons, he contributed immensely to Chennai’s batting efforts in the lower order and also played an equally important role with the bowl in hand.

Sam Curran did not register for the mega auction ahead of the Indian T20 League 2022. He suffered a stress fracture in his lower back during the second phase of the Indian T20 League 2021. The injury has kept him away from action for long.

Notably, he was expected to come back during the Indian T20 League 2022, but the medical staff of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) advised him not to register for the auction.

Curran recently revealed that he is frustrated to miss out on th 15th edition of the Indian T20 League. However, he also said that the decision to not participate in the tournament was the best given his injury. “I am gutted not to be there. It’s a frustration watching from home. I wanted to go but I didn’t at the end – which was probably the best decision. Looking back, Indian T20 League probably came a little bit too soon.”- Curran told ESPNcricinfo during a conversation with them.

He further revealed that the decision to not participate in the tournament was due to the fear of aggravating the injury. According to his conversation with ESPNcricinfo, he is determined to return to the Indian T20 League in the next season.
