‘Enjoying batting in the middle-order’ – KL Rahul on his new role for Indian team in Test Cricket
During day two of the 1st test of England’s tour of India at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad from 25-29 January 2024, India’s wicket-keeper batsman KL Rahul shed light on the perks of batting in the middle order than in the top. KL Rahul has been magnificent ever since he made this comeback for the Indian team in the Asia Cup and has been one of the most impactful batsmen in the team since he was given the new role of a middle-order batter.
In a recent interview, KL Rahul talked about how batting in the middle order gives you an added advantage of planning your innings and you can watch how the ball is performing on the field and what the bowlers are strategizing against the batsmen. In the first test against England, KL Rahul was dismissed for 86 runs after playing 123 deliveries.
KL Rahul on batting in the middle order for India
“Enjoying batting in the middle-order. I did enjoy batting in the top-order for a long time, but here you get some time to put your feet up, watch as to how the ball is doing, what the bowlers are doing, and it gives time to plan your innings,” Rahul told News18 Cricket Next.
While talking about his century at the century and during the tour of South Africa, KL Rahul said, “The 100 in South Africa has given me some confidence, also having played 6–7 months of cricket since my injury.”
Discussing further about his sublime knock in 1st Test, he said, “The aim was to stay positive when I went out to bat. Very different to that of South Africa (on the pitch) – a bit of turn, it became slower and slower as the ball went old. Was a challenge, I had to wait for my opportunity to play shots.”
