In the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL), St Lucia Kings took on Guyana Amazon Warriors on 22 September 2022. It was the 27th match which took place in Providence. However, both these teams have struggled so far in this year’s tournament. So, it was a great opportunity for the teams to gain some points.
Speaking of the match, St Lucia Kings won the toss and they opted to bat first. For them, skipper Faf du Plessis and Mark Deyal came out to open. However, Deyal scored a two-ball duck as he lost his wickets to Romario Shepard. Lucia Kings were in a spot of trouble by losing one wicket for one run only.

After that, Faf du Plessis and Dickwella stitched a solid partnership of 132 runs. Dickwella scored 36 runs off 32 balls, including five fours. Other batters also chipped in with some crucial contributions. But, it was the skipper who scored 103 runs off 59 balls, including 10 fours and six over boundaries. Faf du Plessis scored those runs at a strike rate of 174.57. All these contributions helped his team to post a total of 194 runs for five wickets in 20 overs. For Guyana, Shakib Al Hasan took two wickets only. In reply, Guyana’s openers scored 81 runs in the first seven overs.
Gurbaz scored 52 runs off 26 balls, at a strike rate of 200. Then, Shai Hope scored 59* runs off 30 balls, including two fours and five sixes. Apart from them, some other small contributions helped Guyana to chase down the target in 19.2 overs with six wickets to spare. Shai Hope won the player of the match award. However, with the century, Faf du Plessis became the first overseas player to score two centuries in the history of the Caribbean Premier League. But, it all went in vain as his team failed to defend that total. Meanwhile, fans enjoyed du Plessis’ inning as they showered praises on Twitter.
