FIFA World Cup 2022, Day 3: Saudi Arabia steal limelight on the Day, as France breeze past Australia
On Day Four of the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022, four games were played at different venues. First up, former champions, Argentina and Saudi Arabia locked horns at the Lusail Iconic Stadium. The next one was between Denmark and Tunisia at the Education City Stadium. After this, Poland and Mexico faced off at Stadium 974. The last game was played between defending champions France and Australia.
Match Number 1 – Argentina vs Saudi Arabia
World Number Three Argentina and number 51 were facing each other first up. It was the battle of unequal given the Southern American side has won the titles two times. On the other hand, the Asian side is trying to find its mark. However, on Day 3 of the tournament, they most certainly made their mark even though they had some luck on their side.
After trailing the game 0-1 at half-time, the Arabians made a spectacular comeback as they scored two goals in the first eight minutes of the second half. Thanks to their good defending and determination, they upset the former champions by 2-1.
Match Number 2 – Denmark vs Tunisia
After the famous upset, the European side, Denmark, and North African outfit, Tunisia locked horns. Even though Tunisia played well, they failed to score with them creating much more chances than Denmark. The European outfit had one real chance in the dying stages of the game but failed to capitalize. The game ended in 0-0 draw.
Match Number 3 – Mexico vs Poland
In this game, Poland skipper Robert Lewandowski had the opportunity to score his first World Cup goal. However, the Barcelona forward failed to capitalize which is why the game ended in a 0-0 draw. However, the game can’t be termed as a tame draw as both sides fought hard.
Match Number 4 – France vs Australia
In the last game of the day, defending champions opened their campaign against the Kangaroos. The Aussies had a great start as Craig Goodwin scored in the ninth minute of the game. However, France showed them why they are the two-time winners. Adrien Rabiot (27′) and Olivier Giroud (32′) made sure the team was led by 2-1 in the first half. In the second half, superstar Kylian Mbappe (68′) scored before Giroud (71′) ensured the team will win by an emphatic margin.
