Ben Stokes scored his first ODI World Cup century against the Netherlands in Pune on Wednesday. The 32-year-old scored 108 runs as the English team put up a massive 339 runs on the board from their 50 overs.

Jos Buttler chose to bat first after he won the toss as there were two changes to the team. Scott Edwards also made one change to his side from their last game. The Netherlands still has a faint chance of making it to the Semi-Finals of the ODI World Cup 2023.

England on the other hand came into the tournament as the defending champions. Jos Buttler and his side are having a tournament to forget as they are placed 10th in the table. The English need a win to book their place for the next global event in Pakistan to be held in 2025.

Ben Stokes scores superlative century –

English test skipper Ben Stokes scored an amazing century to help his side post 339 on the board. The 32-year-old came into the tournament having injured himself during the ODI series at home to New Zealand.

The cricket-crazy crowd in Pune witnessed Ben Stokes at his imperious best. The left-handed batter scored 108 runs from just 84 balls with the help of six fours and 6 sixes. Logan Van Beek got the big wicket of Stokes when he was caught by Sybrand Engelbrecht.

Earlier in the day Jonny Bairstow was out after scoring 15 runs from 17 balls. Joe Root was out next when he was bowled by Logan Van Beek for 28. Dawid Malan was looking good to score a century before he was run out for 87.

The English kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were placed at 192 for 6 in the 36th over. Chris Woakes then joined Ben Stokes to add 129 runs for the 7th wicket in 80 balls as the English all-rounder scored 51.

If England wins their game on Wednesday it will be their 2nd win of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. Jos Buttler and his side still have to play one more game on Saturday in Kolkata against Pakistan.
