The England cricket team finally snapped their losing run to win their 2nd game of the ODI World Cup 2023. It was a huge win for Jos Buttler and their side as they now have kept their 2025 Champions Trophy hopes alive.

Jos Buttler and his side scored 339 runs after they won the toss and decided to bat first. Liam Livingstone and Mark Wood were replaced by Gus Atkinson and Harry Brook. For the Dutch side, it was Teja Nidamanuru who was the only change from the last encounter.

The loss also meant that the Netherlands had also been eliminated from the ODI World Cup 2023. Coming into the game the Dutch side still held hopes of making it to the final four albeit with a slim chance.

England thrash the Netherlands with a huge margin –

Opting to bat, England scored 339 from their 50 overs, thanks to Ben Stokes scoring 108. This was the first ODI century for the 32-year-old England star as it came off 84 balls with 6 fours and an equal number of sixes.

The English team got a great start thanks to Dawid Malan who scored 87 runs off 74 balls with 10 fours and 2 sixes. Chris Woakes contributed with 51 runs which came off 45 balls with five boundaries and a six. Bas De Leede was the top wicket-taker with 3/74 while Aryan Dutt and Logan Van Beek picked two wickets each.

Chasing 340 to win, the Dutch were all out for 179 runs in the 38th over. Teja Nidamnuru was the top scorer with 41 runs from 34 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes. One of the sixes landed deep into the Pune stands.

Scott Edwards with 38 was the next best scorer while Wesley Baressi (37) and Sybrand Engelbrecht (33) batted well but couldn’t continue the great start. England’s two spin bowlers Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid picked 3 wickets each. David Willey and Chris Woakes bowled well to pick two wickets and one wicket respectively.

England now travels to Kolkata to play Pakistan in their final game of the ODI World Cup 2023 on Saturday. If England wins the game it will more or less help them qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy. The Dutch on the other hand go to Bangalore to take on India on Sunday in their final game of the tournament.
