In the ninth game of the ongoing WPL 2024 between table toppers, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore locked horns. Ahead of the game, the home team RCB was coming off a loss against the 2023 finalists, Delhi Capitals. On the other hand, the defending champions, MI lost to UP Warriors. Meanwhile, in this game, the Blue Brigade won the toss and elected to field first.

They had a great start with the ball as they picked up three wickets for 33 runs. The likes of Saika Ishaque, Issy Wong, and Nat Sciver-Brunt shared a wicket each. The opening pair of Sophie Devine and skipper Smriti Mandhana scored nine runs each. Sabbineni Meghana managed 11 runs. In form, Richa Ghosh was removed by Pooja Vastrakar.

In reply, the Sciver-led side had a great start with Yastika Bhatia scoring 31 off 15 balls and the team reached 45 runs in 3.5 overs. After her wicket by Devine, the team’s scoring rate went down a bit. Hayley Matthews (26) was removed. Sciver, who led the team in Harmanpreet Kaur‘s absence scored 27 off 25 balls. Meanwhile, Amelia Kerr remained unbeaten 40 off 24 balls including seven fours, and helped the team win the game by seven wickets.

After the game, skipper Mandhana said “We did not get the start (we wanted) and it cost us the game. (On what would have been a par score) It was the same wicket we played against DC. Anything above 165 would have been a good total. Not as good as the other day but still a good pitch to bat on. Batting first, we have seen it is holding a little bit. We could not adjust to the pitch. We went in with the same flow. Something to learn from, hopefully we come back very soon.”
