India had a very good tournament in the ODI World Cup 2023 barring the final against Australia. At Narendra Modi’s stadium in Ahmedabad, the home side faced an unexpected defeat at the hands of Australia. The Indian team lost the final in front of a packed house in the world’s biggest stadium. India played almost perfectly till the final and lost the big match despite being the best team in the tournament till then. India had some of the oldest players playing in the tournament for them.

The likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ravichandran Ashwin were all well over 35 years old. Many of these players might not feature in the next ODI World Cup in 2027. However, the future of ODIs as a format is itself in question in recent times. With that being said, the above-mentioned players taking part in ODIs are in doubt. For the Champions Trophy 2025, these players might feature in the Indian team. Ravichandran Ashwin is doubtful even for that.

Here are the five Indian players who might not feature in ODIs for India from here on.

5. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli recently turned 35 years old earlier this month. On the day of his birthday, Virat scored a hundred and became only the second batter to score 49 hundreds in ODIs after Sachin Tendulkar. It was one such tournament for Virat, where he broke records for fun. The Indian batter won the Player of the Tournament award for his exceptional performance in the tournament. Unfortunately, Virat could not end up winning the Trophy for his team.

But in the upcoming days, the focus will be on Tests and T20Is. A big ODI tournament, the Champions Trophy 2025, is two years away from now. The next big tournament is the T20 World Cup 2024, which will take place in the next 7 months. Along with that, the focus will also be on Tests, which will be a part of the World Test Championship cycle 3. Hence, Virat might focus on Tests and T20Is. ODIs might not be played. Even if a schedule rolls out, Virat is unlikely to be a part of it.
