In the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, hosts India faced five-time champion Australia at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In a high-voltage final, the Indian batting line-up flattered once again against a quality bowling unit.

Riding on half-centuries from wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul and Virat Kohli, India posted a below-par total of 240/10 in 50 overs. Australian pacer Mitchell Starc and skipper Pat Cummins broke havoc in the Indian batting lineup as the hosts failed to put up a show. It’s worth noting that KL Rahul, in his innings, scored 67 runs off 105 balls with the help of a boundary. Kohli, in his innings, scored 54 runs off 63 balls.

However, in the second inning, when Australia were chasing a mediocre total of 240 runs, Kohli had an eye-to-eye contest with Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne. Both stared at each other for almost 30 seconds while changing sides between overs. However, both didn’t utter a word as Labuschange continued his dominance with the bat. Australia won the game comfortably, and Labuschagne remained unbeaten.

Travis Head once again proved to be deadly for India

It’s worth noting the incident between Virat Kohli and Marnus Labuschagne after India drew three quick wickets. Pacers Mohammad Shami and Jasprit Bumrah clinched three quick wickets and left the Aussies in shock. They dismissed openers David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, and Steve Smith. However, Travis Head, along with Marnus Labuschagne, had some other plans.

The duo secured a partnership of 192 runs to outplay India in the high-octane game. Head in his innings, he scored 137 runs off 120 balls with the help of 15 fours and four sixes. Meanwhile, Labuschagne stayed till the end as he scored an unbeatable 58 runs off 110 balls with the help of four boundaries. It’s worth noting that this is Australia’s sixth World Cup title. However, India’s Virat Kohli won the player of the tournament award.
