The second season of the ongoing Road Safety World Series has staged seven games and the fans have been reminiscing their old memories. Teams such as West Indies, Sri Lanka, India, South Africa, Australia, England, Bangladesh, and New Zealand are participating in the tournament. Fans of these teams have gotten the opportunity to watch the yesteryear heroes in the park once again.
Even though it is the early stages of the tournament, some of the players have come up with match-winning performances. Most of those have been retired for a long time. However, watching them play gives the fans a feeling that they are still active in the game. Meanwhile, we will look at the top-five performers of the ongoing second edition of the tournament.
Top-five performers of the Road Safety World Series
- Tillakaratne Dishan
The former Sri Lanka skipper created an impact in his first game of the tournament. In the game against Australia, the right-hander scored 107 runs in just 56 balls. His innings included 14 fours and four sixes. This helped the team amass the highest team total of the tournament i.e 218/1, beating India’s 217/4. Also, not to forget, this is the first time a player has scored a hundred in the history of the tournament.
2. Stuart Binny
The former India all-rounder scored 82 not out in the team’s inaugural game against South Africa. The team was in a bit of trouble after losing four wickets for 129 runs in 14.3 overs. However, Binny’s innings helped his side go past the 200-run mark. The defending champions went on to win the game by 61 runs.
3. Nuwan Kulasekara
The former pacer from Sri Lanka retired from the game a long time ago. However, he has still got it as he has picked six wickets in two games. Talking about his average, economy, and strike rate, they are convincing enough for the national selectors to get him back in the squad for the 20-20 World Cup. The swing bowler struck at seven, averaging 7.83, and has an economy rate of 6.71.
4. Shane Watson
The two-time ODI World Cup winner for Australia has played only one game and scored 39 runs. Even though these are not too many runs, the way he batted during the innings was enough to say that he can still come out of retirement and play regularly.
5. Johan Botha
The former Proteas off-spinner has taken up coaching roles in franchise cricket. However, looking at his bowling this tournament, he has taken four wickets in two games at an average of 12.50, a strike rate of 12, and an economy rate of 6.25.
