The picture of Indian cricket was different before the advent of the Indian T20 League. Making it to the big stage was very difficult as players from the bigger teams like Mumbai and Delhi got preference over talents from the remote parts of the nation.
But this changed as franchise-based cricket started to become popular in India.
The franchises started up scouting systems to look for new talents from even the nation’s smallest cities. This increased the competition for the spots in the National squad. Given the present picture, performance is the key to last long in the biggest stage.
A few matches out of form might result in a player being dropped from the squad. To return to the mainframe performance in the Indian T20 League is one of the main aspects.
Here we take a look at five players who would like to perform big in the upcoming season of the Indian T20 League and return to India’s main scheme of things.
1. Shikhar Dhawan: Shikhar Dhawan was bought by Punjab in the mega auction of Indian T20 League 2022 for INR 8.5 Cr. Shikhar played for Delhi in the last season. He was in great touch throughout the season. In the 16 matches, he scored 587 runs at an average of 39. 13 and a Strike Rate of 124.62.
But in the last few series, Dhawan has been on and off the team for India. In the minimum chances he has got, he has mostly proven himself. But with other young openers like KL Rahul, Prithvi Shaw, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubhman Gill performing brilliantly, it appears as if India is looking beyond Dhawan. But Shikhar will look to perform at his best again and show the national selectors that he is as good as any youngster.
