In a recent development, Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn, and Andrew Puttick have resigned from their positions at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore, adding a new layer of turmoil to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

This trio, formerly part of the senior men’s team setup, had been reassigned to the NCA following a major overhaul following the disappointing World Cup campaign in November 2023. Mickey Arthur, who was the director of Pakistan men’s cricket, saw his role filled by Mohammad Hafeez, while Bradburn served as the head coach and Puttick as the batting coach.

The PCB confirmed the departure of the three individuals, stating that they had informed the board of their decision to step down by the end of January 2024. The parting was described as amicable, with the PCB expressing gratitude for their services and wishing them well in their future endeavours.

“All three individuals informed the Pakistan Cricket Board of their decision to leave their respective jobs by the end of January 2024. The decision was taken amicably between all the stakeholders. The PCB wishes them well in their future endeavours and is grateful for their services,” the PCB said in a release.

Mickey Arthur continues to serve Derbyshire.

Mickey Arthur is set to continue as the head coach of Derbyshire, a role he juggled alongside his duties with the Pakistan team. Bradburn recently signed a three-year deal as Glamorgan’s head coach, and Puttick has taken on the role of Afghanistan’s batting coach.

The reshuffling of roles began after Pakistan’s World Cup disappointment when the team failed to reach the semi-finals. Initially, due to the temporary management committee’s limited authority, the trio remained in limbo. They had their roles reassigned, and notably, none of them accompanied the team for the recent Test tour of Australia, where Pakistan faced a series of whitewashes, losing all three Tests.

With Mohammad Hafeez taking on the dual responsibilities of team director and head coach and Adam Hollioake as the batting coach, the team faced challenges during the Australia tour. The current T20I series in New Zealand further adds to the team’s woes, trailing 3-0, as the PCB grapples with the aftermath of the coaching staff’s departure and strives to chart a stable course forward.
