Former India captain backs Indian Cricket Board for showing faith in Rohit Sharma for upcoming T20 World Cup
After copping a record loss by 434 runs against India in the 3rd test, the England team is under heavy criticism from all fronts. Before the series cricket fans were excited to see how the ‘Bazball’ approach would fare in India against the dominant Indian spin attack.
After winning the 1st test, the fans started believing but after that, this England team with their aggressive approach could do what the Alastair Cook-led team did back in 2012. But in the 2nd and 3rd tests, the ‘Bazball’ approach fell flat and despite being in good positions in both matches, England lost both tests with big margins and are now lagging in the series by 1-2.
Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly lauded the Indian team’s performance and also gave Rohit Sharma well-deserved praise for leading the inexperienced and injury-marred Indian Test side very well against the aggressive England team. Ganguly also backed the Indian cricket board’s decision to name Rohit Sharma as the captain for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the United States.
While speaking to Mirror Now, Ganguly said, “Rohit Sharma is the right choice as India’s captain for the T20 World Cup. The way he led the Indian team and won 10 matches in the 50-over World Cup is still fresh in our memory. So, Rohit was the best choice.”
Ganguly heaps praise for the youngsters from remarkable Test form
Ganguly also praised the young lot of Indian batters who performed well against England in the Test series and played a significant role in taking a lead in the series despite missing some of the key Indian players.
Ganguly said, “Jaiswal is not only a good player, he’s capable of playing all in formats of the game. Sarfaraz has started well. He now has to score in foreign countries. Sarfaraz is a good example for budding cricketers, who must keep in mind that if they score consistently, they will get their chances.”
He further added, “Bazball is good, but it’s difficult for England to be successful in Indian conditions. I will be surprised if India loses the series. Please remember that India is playing without Virat [Kohli], and KL [Rahul]. It’s a young team with many new faces, and yet, England are struggling.”
