I am sure that he will make a difference and will score lots of runs: Virender Sehwag

Former Indian opener, Virender Sehwag opines that team India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma will finish the mega event as the tournament’s leading run-scorer. The right-hand batter asserted that due to batting-friendly conditions in India,  the openers will get a lot of help in the start of the innings and they can score runs easily.

“India has got good wickets, so I think openers will get good opportunities. If I want to pick one, I think Rohit Sharma. There are a couple of names, but I am Indian and I should pick an Indian, so Rohit Sharma. When the World Cup comes, his energy level and his performance goes up. So, I am sure [he will do well]. And this time, he’s the captain also. I am sure that he will make a difference and will score lots of runs,” Sehwag was quoted as saying in a video posted on Apex Cricket Council on his Instagram handle.

Rohit was the leading run-scorer in the previous edition of the ODI World Cup which took place in England back in 2019. The Mumbai-born cricketer slammed 648 runs in nine matches at an average of 81 with five hundreds in the tournament. So far in his international career the 36-year-old has played 244 ODIs in which he has smashed  9837 runs at an average of 48.69, with 48 fifties and 30 hundreds.
