Former Indian All-rounder Shares His Opinion On Rishabh Pant As An Opener
After winning the ODI and T20I series against England, India is currently busy playing the T20I series against West Indies. They also won the ODI series earlier this week. However, during the England T20Is, India went with Rishabh Pant as the opening partner of Rohit Sharma. However, Pant failed to capitalize on those opportunities with some significant scores.
But, they came up with a surprise again when Rohit Sharma came up with Suryakumar Yadav to open in the first T20I against the Caribbeans. Now, regarding that decision, former Indian all-rounder, Reetinder Sodhi shared his opinion. He shared the most suited position for this exciting wicketkeeper batter of India in the shortest format.
“I am not in favour of Rishabh Pant opening. He is India’s pivotal player.” – Reetindar Sodhi
Speaking on India News, Sodhi said that Pant should not be opening for India with Rohit Sharma. With his abilities, Pant should play in the middle order. It can help India as he will be there on the 15th-16th over. Ahead of the T20 World Cup later this year, Team India should give a clear role to Rishabh Pant.
He said: “I am not in favour of Rishabh Pant opening. He is India’s pivotal player. India needs him when the game gets tight in the 15th-16th over. You can better utilize him in the middle overs. He can take on the spinners and seamers as well,” Sodhi also said that India has better options at the top-order than Pant. He also batted for another youngster, Ishan Kishan. He said that Ishan should open the innings in the remaining four matches against West Indies.
“I am not saying Pant cannot play the new ball, but India has better options for the top order. Ishan Kishan must open in all the four remaining games,” he concluded. Speaking about Rishabh Pant’s career in T20Is, he played 51 matches for India. He also smashed 782 runs at an average of 22.34, including three fifties only.
