India had a fantastic three-match ODI series against West Indies. They thrashed the Caribbeans at a margin of 3-0, thanks to Shubman Gill’s brilliance with the bat. Gill was the highest scorer and player of the series with 205 runs. But, former New Zealand player, Scott Styris had a different suggestion for Shubman Gill.

It will help him to achieve big heights in the game in the near future. Speaking on Sports 18’s show ‘Sports Over The Top’, Styris refused to term Gill as a complete player already. He said that Gill needs to follow the path of Indian great, Sachin Tendulkar to become a complete player in the coming days.

“Shubman Gill has to follow the path of Tendulkar for achieving greater heights.” – Scott Styris

Former Kiwi cricketer, Stris said that Shubman Gill needs to keep learning and follow the path of Tendulkar if he wants to achieve greater heights. He said: “You are always learning, even towards the end, Tendulkar was still learning about his craft and he played, what was it? 200 Test matches.” Styris also added that Gill has all the technical abilities.

But, still, he needs to work on his loopholes to become a great player. “…So, you know, I think, you would never label someone so young, like Shubman Gill as a complete player. I still think there are holes in his game. I think there are holes in his technique that the opposition will look to exploit, but he’s got all the skills and the other component. What makes a World class player is their mental thought process and their maturity and leadership. And I think he has that as well,” he said.

Speaking about Sachin Tendulkar’s career, the former India batter played 664 international matches. He scored 34357 runs across all three formats, including 100 of hundreds and 164 fifty-plus scores. On the other hand, Shubman Gill just played 17 international matches where he managed 883 runs so far in his career for India across two formats (Tests and ODIs).
