In the last few months, Virat Kohli has been back to his best. Before the Men’s Asia Cup 2022, he had a poor patch and struggled to score runs on occasion. Since the continental tournament, Kohli has scored four centuries in T20I and ODI cricket. In the Asia Cup, the right-hander scored his maiden T20I hundred. Three months later, the Delhi player broke the ODI century drought that lasted three years.

In the recently concluded ODI series, the 34-year-old scored two hundred in three games. With this, he is inching closer to Sachin Tendulkar’s 49 ODI hundreds record, the highest of all time. Meanwhile, former Sri Lanka all-rounder Farveez Maharoof has praised Kohli after the latter’s 46 ODI ton. The former said that Virat is simply the Greatest of all time (G.O.A.T) of international cricket.

“Simply the GOAT of international cricket. If Lionel Messi is the GOAT in football, it’s Virat Kohli for me in international cricket,” Farveez Maharoof said on ESPNcricinfo’s show Match Day.

The 2023 ODI World Cup will be Virat Kohli’s: Farveez Maharoof

The former Sri Lanka all-rounder further added that the script for Virat Kohli winning the 2023 ODI World Cup is written nicely. Maharoof added that if the 2008 U19 World Cup winner continues his good form, he might do it for his country.

“The script is written nicely for 2023. World Cup at home, he won in 2011 and this is his World Cup as well if he continues his good form. The way he paces his innings, the way he takes on bowlers and the way he understands the situation, I don’t think anyone in the world does it any better,” he added.

Talking about the World Cup, it will be played in India in October-November this year. For the first time since 2011, India will host the ODI World Cup. 12 years back, the then MS Dhoni-led side lifted the trophy. Since then, they are looking to add on to their two ODI World Cup titles (1983 and 2011).
