Four Giant firms are in contention for Indian T20 League’s Media Rights

The media rights auction of the Indian T20 Leauge is going to be held on Sunday (12 June) in Mumbai for the upcoming cycle of 2023 to 2027. In the last few days, many big firms like Amazon had pulled out of the race. Now, as per reports, the final round of BIDDING is going to happen between four big firms.

As per the reports from Asian News International, firms like Viacom18, Disney Star, Zee, and Sony are going to bid for the media rights. Even though those are categorized under four different packages. Earlier on Saturday, it was reported that Amazon pulled out from the contention as they did not find any logical reason behind such an investment into the Indian market. Amazon already invested a lot in this market and that’s why the E-Commerce company let go of this opportunity.

“As of now, 10 companies (TV and streaming) are in the fray,” – An official of the Indian Cricket Board

An official member of the Indian Cricket confirmed the news of the exclusion of Amazon from the race. He also confirmed that there are 10 companies in the fray. “Yes, Amazon is out of the race. They didn’t join the technical bidding process today. As far as Google (YouTube) is concerned, they had picked up the bid document but didn’t submit it. As of now, 10 companies (TV and streaming) are in the fray,” said the official, as quoted by News18.

There are four different packages and this time, Bidders need to BID separately for each package. Last time, Star India bought rights for both TV and digital with a composite bid of Rs 16,347.50 crore but this time the composite base price is more than Rs 32,000 crore.

The Indian T20 Leauge media rights e-auction will commence on June 12 at 11 am. There is no such deadline as the Indian Cricket Board allowed the extension of this e-auction in the coming few days also. The auction will go on until all offers are received.
