On December 23, the player auction for the Indian T20 League 2023 was conducted in Kochi. Unlike February this year, this recently-concluded event was a mini-auction. All 10 teams of the tournament had retained most of their players. They just needed to fill up their remaining slots. Meanwhile, during the event, some cricketers went for big bucks. On the other hand, some players saw massive deductions in their salaries compared to last year.

Players who have bagged big bucks expressed their joy. Harry Brook was the first player to be bagged by a team after engaging in a bidding war. The right-hander was signed by Hyderabad after shelling out 13.25 crores. Notably, the PSL 2022 winner was only the second player to go under the hammer. After him, the 2016 winners nabbed Mayank Agarwal who was the skipper of Punjab in the 15th season.

The Orange Army fought with the likes of Bangalore, Punjab, and Chennai. In the end, Hyderabad shelled out 8.25 crores to win the bidding. After a while, the all-rounder came under the hammer. The first one in the all-rounder set was England’s, Sam Curran. He created a record in the history of the cash-rich league. Apparently, after beating the likes of Chennai, Mumbai, Rajasthan, Lucknow, and Bangalore, Punjab managed to sign him for a record 18.5 crores.

With this, the 20-20 World Cup 2022 winner became the costliest player in the history of the league.

Mumbai spends most of its purse on Cameron Green

After a while, when Australia all-rounder Cameron Green’s name came up, some franchises went ballistic. Teams such as Bangalore, Mumbai, and Delhi bid for him but the five-time winners managed to bag him for 17.5 crores. After that, England Test skipper Ben Stokes was sold to Chennai for 16.25 crores. Notably, Nicholas Pooran, who had an OK season early this year, was signed by Lucknow for 16 crores.
