‘GOAT for a reason’ – Virat Kohli becomes the fastest batter to score 25000 runs in international cricket
As India continued their domination against Australia by winning the Delhi Test by 6 wickets and retaining the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, star batter Virat Kohli achieved another milestone. The 34-year-old completed 25,000 runs in international cricket across all formats.
With this, Kohli became the fastest batter to achieve this milestone. He achieved the feat in 549 innings surpassing the legend Sachin Tendulkar, who took 577 innings to achieve this landmark. Kohli got out after scoring 20 runs in the fourth innings as India were chasing a total of 115 against the Aussies. The Indian batter now has a total of 25012 runs in international cricket.
Kohli has appeared in 106 Tests, 271 ODIs, and 115 T20Is for India, scoring 8195 runs in the longest format, and 12809 and 4008 runs in ODI and T20Is, respectively. With a total of 74 centuries across formats, Kohli maintains an average of over 50 in both ODIs (57.7) and T20Is (52.74).
Talking about the Test match, India showed sheer dominance against Australia on day 3 as the visitors were bowled out 113 runs in their second innings, losing the last 9 wickets for 48 runs.
Ravindra Jadeja shattered the Australian batting line-up by registering his career-best figures of 7/42. Along with Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin took 3 wickets, conceding 59 runs. Travis Head (43 off 46) and Marnus Labuschagne (35 off 50) were the only Australian batters to cross the double figures.
Chasing the total, skipper Rohit Sharma took the charge and scored 31 runs 20 balls with three fours and two sixes. He, unfortunately, got a runout in the seventh over after there was a miscommunication between him and Cheteshwar Pujara.
Pujara (31 off 74) finished the game with a boundary in his hundredth Test match. KS Bharat, on the other hand, remained unbeaten on 23 off 22 balls. With this win, India took an unassailable lead of 2-0 in a four-match series.
