‘Great win lads’ – Twitter pleased as Paarl Royals beat Joburg Super Kings to register their first win of SA20 2023

The Paarl Royals won their first match of the ongoing SA20 2023 season on January 13 by defeating the Joburg Super Kings by seven wickets at Boland Park. This morale-boosting victory has helped the Royals recover from their humiliating eight-wicket loss to MI Cape Town in their first match of the tournament.
None of the Super Kings Kings’ batters seemed to be clicking, even though they were excellent with the bat in their opening game against the Durban Tremendous Giants. After winning the toss, Joburg captain Faf du Plessis was adamant about batting first because he wanted to play to his team’s strengths. However, the Paarl Royals’ collective batting collapse meant that it was a very good toss to lose.
The franchise from Johannesburg never really got going and kept losing wickets on a regular basis. The Super Kings needed to play at the top of their game to even put a respectable score on the board because they had already lost their top-order during the Powerplay and the in-form Donovan Ferreira had been dismissed early with only six runs to his credit.
However, the Paarl Royals bowlers kept things, so it wasn’t to be. In the meantime, tail-ender Lizaad Williams made every effort to continue scoring runs on his own. However, the Joburg Super Kings were bowled out for just 81 runs in the 18th over without any assistance from his teammates, leaving him stranded at 17 runs.
In response, the Paarl Royals lost Jason Roy and Wihan Lubbe, but Jos Buttler and Dane Vilas made sure that the Joburg bowlers were unable to make a comeback. Buttler (29* off 21) and David Miller (8* off 4) finished the formalities of the chase in the 11th over, even after Vilas was out for a run-a-ball 13.
In the meantime, Twitter was thrilled as the side led by David Miller won their first match in the competition. With this win, they got the two points under their belt and moved to the top of the points table.
