‘Haa ab wo bat se nhi khelega’ – Fans react as Pat Cummins says ‘will see a different David Warner in Ashes’
Australia is set to take on England in the first Test of Ashes 2023 at Edgbaston from June 16. Ahead of the prestigious series, Australia skipper Pat Cummins expressed his belief in opener David Warner. Warner who is struggling with poor form in the longest format of the game has been selected for the Ashes series.
Warner had a poor time in Ashes against England pacer Stuart Broad in 2019, when he was dismissed by Broad for whopping seven times in five games. He had one of the worst averages in the history of the prestigious series. However, ahead of the new season, Cummins feels that Warner will bounce back and will be seen in a different form.
“Davey’s, I’m sure, been thinking about Broad a lot over the last four years and if he got another chance how he is going to play against him. It didn’t go Davey’s way last time, but we’ll see a different David Warner this time.” Cummins told reporters on Thursday.
Cummins further expected that his team will take on England’s spin Allrounder Moeen Ali. He said, If you’re a frontline bowler and you’re not holding up an end, hopefully, you’re taking plenty of wickets. That’s an opportunity for the batters. You’ve seen with our guys, if they sense any opportunity to attack a spinner they’ve been pretty brave at times. I don’t think they’ll be any different here.”
“We’re going to be relentless”, says Pat Cummins ahead of the first Test
Ahead of the first game Pat Cummins revealed the plans of his bowling colleagues and asked them to keep calm. He also said that his team is going to be relentless. “The more you get into the minutiae, you end up with a simplified plan, so that’s what we’re going to be hammering home,” Cummins said. “The ball moves a little bit differently. You can’t always bat exactly like you would in a one-day game and that’s the strength of our bowling unit. If there’s anything in the wicket we’re going to find it, we’re going to be relentless in our areas”, he further added.
Notably, Cummins led his team to a wonderful victory against India in the finals of the World Test Championship 2021-23. However, Warner got a start in the first innings of the prestigious game but eventually failed to score big. It will be interesting to see how he adapts to the situation and deals with Stuart Broad. It’s worth noting that Broad has dismissed Warner most number of times in Test cricket.
