‘Har har mahadev’- Fans react as Yashasvi Jaiswal’s father went on Kanwar Yatra walking from Uttar Pradesh to Uttarakhand to pray for his son
The 21-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed a record-breaking century and was undefeated on 143 at the end of day two of the first Test at Windsor Park in Dominica. He enjoyed a massive 229-run partnership with skipper Rohit Sharma, who also struck a century in the game. Jaiswal crossed the three figures barrier in 215 balls, with Rohit also contributing well upfront. The 229-run stand was India’s biggest opening partnership in Tests against the West Indies. The pair, therefore, surpassed Virender Sehwag and Wasim Jaffer’s 159-run partnership in the 2006 Gros Islet Test.
On that very day, his family, 13,700 km away in Thane, was occupied with settling the movers and packers, setting up the house, and purchasing household goods. It was thus a fresh start for the 21-year-old, who had previously camped in tents, sold panipuris, climbed trees to watch IPL games, and once was even refused entry into the Azad Maidan nets. Meanwhile, his father was on Kanwar Yatra, walking from Uttar Pradesh to Uttarakhand, tracking his son’s innings on his phone and praying for his success.
Yashsavi Jaiswal had a dream debut
He was delighted to have scored his maiden century on debut, Jaiswal told the broadcasters that this is only ‘the start’ and highlighted how the skipper’s remarks before the first Test motivated him to play well. The Mumbai batter while speaking about his knock said, “We spoke a lot. All the time, he (Rohit bhai) kept telling me from where do I get my runs from, and how to negotiate the bowlers.”
“Before the game also there was a lot of discussion. He told me ‘You have to do it, you are the only person’, I kept thinking about that and how I can get my runs. I’ve learnt a lot from this game, hope to continue. It makes a big difference when your legendary players in the team talk to you, I try to pick their brains. We (Rohit bhai and I) had a good communication going.”
Speaking to Indian Express his brother Tejsvi said, “It was a proud moment for us, he has been working hard for this for so long. My father has gone for Kanwar Yatra, and had prayed for Yashasvi. My brother is the quiet one in the family, he is too focused on his game.”
