Rohit Sharma took a rest when India took on West Indies in the fifth T20I of the series. India already bagged the series after winning three out of the first four matches. Hence, Hardik Pandya got the chance to lead India in the last match. However, India came out victorious again by 88 runs.

West Indies players looked miserable while chasing the target of 189 runs in the last match. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya was in a jubilant mood when he came out to attend the post-match presentation. There he was asked about his possibility to become a full-time captain in near future for India. In reply to that, Hardik Pandya came out with a cheeky reply.

“If I get an opportunity, I’ll be more than happy to do that.” – Hardik Pandya

During the post-match presentation, Hardik said that he will be more than happy to lead India if he gets any opportunity in the future. However, he said that all focus will be now on winning the major events. He said: “Very special to get a chance to lead your country. And getting that chance and getting that victory means a lot to me as a captain and an individual. I was just following our captain’s roles.”

Hardik Pandya also added: “(Do you see yourself as permanent captain?) Yeah, why not? If I get an opportunity, I’ll be more than happy to do that. But for now, we have a World Cup and Asia Cup now so we need to focus on that and use our skillsets there.” Hardik also heaped praises on the Indian Team management for creating an environment.

Hence, youngsters are expressing themselves fully. “The kind of talent the players have and the freedom we have. This is the new India how they are playing. They are expressing themselves well, and when you have the freedom you get more dangerous. Credit to management and the whole group to make that environment. They are not worried about whether they won’t get picked or whether they will get dropped,” Hardik Pandya concluded.
