Amid the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023, many former and current players are facing hate on social media due to various reasons. From Gautam Gambhir to Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja to Robin Uthappa, everyone has been targeted by trolls for their performance or support of a team. The latest entrant in the list was Robin Uthappa, who was brutally trolled by netizens for supporting CSK in qualifier 1.

Ahead of the game, Uthappa posted a picture of him and his son in CSK’s jersey and extended his support for the yellow army. Soon, he was trolled by netizens for not supporting any other team like this and called him a biased person. A Twitter user said, “Bro played one-two season with Chennai and sold his soul. I have never seen him supporting KKR like this.” This forced Uthappa to retaliate as he replied, “Loyalty and respect is a give and take my friend.”

This was enough for trolls to trouble Uthappa and they slammed him with the hate. Finally, Uthappa came up with another tweet saying, “I’m not surprised by the hate I’m receiving here for what has been MY experience. Peace and love to you all.” Further, former India allrounder Irfan Pathan extended his support to Uthappa and replied, “Hate ko hata mere bhai. Bas pyaar ko dekh.” Uthappa in his reply, acknowledged Pathan’s suggestion and replied: “Zindagi toh pyaar se bhara pada hai mere bhai!! And Only Love can overcome hate.”

Mohit Sharma and Shubman Gill were trolled for their performance

This is not the first case of hate-mongering and trolling of players on social media. In recent games, players like Mohit Sharma and Shubman Gill were trolled for their performance against CSK and RCB, respectively. Firstly, Gill smashed a brilliant century against RCB to knock them out of the tournament. His performance attracted a lot of hate against him and his family members.

After that, in 1st qualifier, Mohit Sharma dismissed Mahendra Singh Dhoni for just 1 run off 2 balls. After Dhoni’s dismissal, fans brutally trolled Mohit Sharma. This has been one of the biggest concerns for the players and cricket pundits to tackle hate on social media. Players like KL Rahul and Virat Kohli have spoken about its effects openly
