Jasprit Bumrah created history as he became the 1st bowler to be ranked No.1 in all three game formats. After the brilliant performance in the 2nd Test match against England, Bumrah jumped up to the Men’s Test rankings and dethroned his teammate, Ravichandran Ashwin. This is the first time Bumrah has reached the top despite taking ten 5-wicket hauls in 34 Test matches.

Ashwin, who was ranked at the top since March 2023, sacrificed his position for Bumrah as he climbed three places to reach the top rank. With this new development, Ashwin ranked third while Kagiso Rabada stayed second in the rankings. Moreover, after Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Bishen Singh Bedi, Bumrah became the fourth player to be ranked No.1 in Test cricket.

In the 2nd Test against England, Bumrah claimed nine wickets in the match and was the Player of the Match. This wasn’t the first time Bumrah delivered whenever the team was in need. Previously, in the 1st Test match’s second innings, when India wasn’t getting any wickets, the captain handed the ball to his best bowler. The trustworthy pacer came in and took four important wickets. Thus, Bumrah deserved to be ranked the No.1 Test bowler.

‘Before a cricketer, I’m a fast bowling fan’ – Jasprit Bumrah impressed with James Anderson’s bowling

Jasprit Bumrah won the Player of the Match award after India defeated England in the 2nd Test match. He played one of the best matches in the history as he took nine wickets in both the innings. In the post-match presentation, Bumrah was asked about his competition with James Anderson. The pacer expressed his love for Cricket and said that if a player is bowling well, he’ll be happy.

“We discuss certain things. Have been playing with him for a long period of time (Rohit). No, not really (competition with Jimmy?). Before a cricketer, I’m a fast bowling fan. If somebody’s doing well, kudos to them. I look at the situation, at the wicket and think what are my options. I should not be a one-trick pony,” said Bumrah at the post-match presentation.
