‘He is like a drug’ – MS Dhoni makes interesting statement about Chennai Super Kings star pacer
MS Dhoni’s wicket-keeping and batting abilities serve as a complement to his reputation as one of the most successful captains in cricket history. The legendary cricketer has led India to greater heights, gaining numerous victories – including three major international titles. The five-time IPL winner is a mentor to both senior and budding cricketers, and we’ve seen players spend time with him after each game, eager to learn something new from the best in the business.
Besides his captaincy brilliance, Dhoni’s rapport with his teammates also plays a major role in his success. With his enormous experience, the charismatic leader is a specialist in nurturing talents, while also being friendly with his players, making them feel like family. CSK pacer Deepak Chahar is one of those groomed under Dhoni. The 42-year-old has now opened up about his views on Chahar, reflecting his love and bond with the right-arm pacer.
He is maturing but he takes time: Dhoni on ChaharĀ
Dhoni and Chahar have been playing together in the IPL since the 2016 season. The first two seasons were with Rising Pune Supergiant and when CSK returned in 2018, the Chennai-based franchise bought Chahar on Dhoni’s suggestion. Some of the fun moments between the duo in the CSK camp had gone viral. Meanwhile, at a recent promotional event, Dhoni joked that Chahar has not matured yet and may never see him like that in his lifetime.
“Deepak Chahar is like a drug, if he is not there, you would think, where is he – if he is around, you would think, why he is here – good part is that he is maturing but he takes time and that is the problem, in my lifetime, I won’t see him matured (smiles),” the wicketkeeper batter said at the launch of ‘Lets Get Married’, a Tamil film produced by his production company Dhoni Entertainment.
The last time the two were on the field together was in the IPL 2023 final, when CSK defeated Gujarat Titans to clinch their record-equalling fifth title. We may not have seen those towering sixes from Dhoni’s bat in the recent edition, but his wicketkeeping and captaincy were top-notch. Chahar was also instrumental in their title run.
