Former India cricketer Karsan Ghavri is not happy with the selector’s decision of leaving veteran off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin from the Asia Cup 2023 squad. According to him, Ashwin is not been treated properly despite being a senior player. The Chairman of Selectors, Ajit Agarkar, along with the Men in Blue skipper, Rohit Sharma, announced the 18-member squad for the Asia Cup 2023 in the press conference on Monday, August 21, in Delhi.

In the 16th edition of the Asia Cup, India have gone with spinners like Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel. The Men in Blue have dropped two star bowlers, Ashwin, and leg-spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal from the squad. While speaking on the Ceat Cricket Rating Award in Mumbai on Monday, August 21, Ghavri asked the reason for not selecting Ashwin in the Asia Cup squad.

“What is Ashwin supposed to prove after taking 712 international wickets? He has not been treated well despite being a senior player. Ashwin is a quality player and he should have been selected for the Asia Cup. He will be a key bowler in the ODI World Cup on Indian pitches,” Ghavri was quoted as saying in the Ceat Cricket Rating Award.

I was a little surprised about Yuzvendra Chahal, Ashwin is not there either: Madan Lal

Former India all-rounder, Madan Lal agreed with Gharvi and questioned the selection committee for not selecting Ashwin and Chahal for the Asia Cup 2023 squad. He opined that the 33-year-old is a match-winner, and Ashwin has the ability to take wickets when it matters the most.

“I was a little surprised about Yuzvendra Chahal, Ashwin is not there either. Australia has played Kuldeep Yadav very well. Yuzvendra Chahal should have got a chance. He is a match-winning bowler. Ashwin is someone who has taken 500-600 wickets… he knows how to take wickets. We did not play him in the WTC final, the team management knows better,” the 1983 World Cup winner asserted.
