Here’s how the MS Dhoni biopic producer convinced Dhoni to do a film on him
The biopic on former India skipper MS Dhoni was one of the most loved films by critics and fans alike. It didn’t only garner more than 100 crores for producer Arun Pandey but also showcased the life of Dhoni till the 2011 World Cup win. However, according to the producer, it wasn’t easy for him to convince Dhoni for the biopic.
Pandey revealed that the former India skipper used to ask about the need for the film. The former also said that after convincing Dhoni, the latter urged him to not represent him in any manner. Pandey added that it took two years for him to convince Dhoni for the film. According to him, the discussion for the film started after the 2011 World Cup.
“Initially, he used to ask, ‘What is the need for this?’ But once we convinced him, all he said was, ‘Don’t misrepresent me. Show me as I am,” Arun Pandey said.
“It took us two years to convince him. This development didn’t happen overnight, there had been discussions about it since the 2011 World Cup final. It wasn’t easy,” Pandey added.
Sushant Singh Rajput played the role of MS Dhoni
Talking about the film, the role of Dhoni was played by the Late Sushant Singh Rajput. The film was released in 2016. Four years after this, the late actor died by suicide in his apartment. Talking about Dhoni, he announced his retirement from international cricket a couple of months after Rajput’s death. Currently, the latter plays in the Indian T20 League every year. In the seasons 2020 and 2022, the team finished outside the playoffs. They won the title in 2021.
In 2023, the Ranchi-player is expected to play his last Indian T20 League game in front of the Chennai crowd. He has expressed his desire to play in front of the Chennai for one last time before retiring. On the other hand, it is reported recently that the league will return to the home and away format from next year.
