Renowned auctioneer Hugh Edmeades is set to return for the Indian T20 League 2023 player auction next month. The event will take place on December 23 even though there are reports of franchises requesting a postponement. Apparently, some of the support staff members of some teams will be celebrating Christmas. However, the Indian Cricket Board has reportedly denied the request citing logistic issues.

Meanwhile, Edmeades has confirmed his return to the league. Not to forget, he collapsed during the 2022 auction in February this year. He was replaced by Charu Sharma before the Britisher regained full consciousness. After the incident, the Indian Cricket Board was skeptical of asking him to do the job once again. However, the auctioneer has confirmed that he will return for the event

“I am thrilled to have been asked by the Indian Cricket Board to conduct the 2023 ITL auction and am excited about visiting Kochi for the first time,” Edmeades told  Sportstar.

It was foolish for me to skip meals: Hugh Edmeades

After he regained consciousness and concluded the event early this year, he revealed that he didn’t have enough food. He added that he wanted to sleep early on the day before the event which is why he didn’t have any food. On the next morning, the Britisher realized he didn’t have any food left. According to him, the entire episode gave him some lessons.

“I was running around on Friday night doing sound checks, and I wanted to have an early night, so I slept without having much. So, on Saturday morning, I thought I should have breakfast and then got called downstairs for some interviews and a few meetings. Even before I knew it, it was mid-day. I thought I would have something in the car and realised that there was no food as I had run out of stock. It’s a one-off incident and a lesson learnt that you should not ignore these things.”
