‘Humaare bowlers 5 runs bhi nahi bana sakte’ – Fans react as Romario Shepherd helps West Indies beat England in third ODI
West Indies won the third and final ODI against England to win the series. For the first time in 25 years, the West Indies were able to win an ODI series at home against England. With the win, West Indies came back roaring and found solace for not being able to qualify for the ODI World Cup 2023. On the other hand, England’s bad run in the format continued.
West Indies won the first ODI on the back of a very good knock from Shai Hope. In the second ODI, England made a comeback to stay alive in the series. In the series decider, West Indies performed like champions and won the game in a rain-affected game. England managed a score of 206 runs in their 40 overs in the third ODI, which was not enough.
All the batters in the top 6 failed for England, barring Ben Duckett. The Southpaw was helped by Liam Livingstone, as the duo revived the innings of England, which was tattering at 49/5 at one stage. Duckett scored 71(73) and Livingstone scored 45(56). With some useful contributions from the lower-order batters, England managed to cross the 200-run mark in their innings with the bat.
Romario Shepherd the hero of West Indies
Matthew Forde was the pick of the bowlers, who claimed 3/29 in his 8 overs. Chasing the target, West Indies lost the wicket of Brandon King for a single run. Alick Athanaze was joined by Keacy Carty, who played a good innings. The two batters took their team closer towards victory. But a flurry of wickets in the middle made the home side a bit nervous. From 135/6, the West Indies needed someone to stay till the end.
But Shepherd took the aggressive route and tried to finish the game as soon as possible. The All-rounder was successful in his mission, as he scored an unbeaten 41*(28), which helped his side to win the match. With the bat, he scored 3 boundaries and sixes each. With the ball, Shepherd claimed 2 wickets. The efforts of Shepherd helped WI to win the match and the series.
