‘Yeh underrated player hai’ – Fans react as Shai Hope’s century powers Guyana Amazon Warriors to 88-run win over Barbados Royals in CPL 2023

Barbados Royals and Guyana Amazon Warriors recently encountered each other in the 30th match of Carribean Premier League (CPL) on 18 September 2023, Monday in Guyana. BR won the toss and chose to bowl first, and GAW put one of the highest targets in CPL on the board. 

Shai Hope and Kelvon Anderson led South Africa to a high score as they scored 106 and 47 runs off 44 and 39 deliveries with a strike rate of 240.91 and 120.51, respectively. Shai Hope smashed 9 fours and 8 huge sixes that left the spectators thrilled. The mid-order batsman Anderson scored 2 fours and 1 six to lead GAW to a score of 226-7. 

Barbados Royals miserably failed to chase the target of 227 runs at the end of 20 overs. The team’s Rivaldo Clarke and Carlos Braithwaite became the highest scorers for the team by scoring 54 and 18 runs off 43 and 14 deliveries respectively, Hope was highly appreciated for his mind blowing century. GAW sealed an easy victory against BR by 88 runs.

“Today I decided to express myself and it just clicked. It was my matchup and we had a very solid start and we had a lot of depth in our batting. Rahkeem had to take the punch but it was one of those days. Gives great confidence going into the playoffs. [on not fielding] Just a bit of cramps. [on Kevlon Anderson] I’m happy to see that he had a great day. I always believe that I can score runs in any format I play. Good pitch and I capitalised”, said Shai Hope, after being awarded as the player of the match

“It has been a very tough season for us. The plans were not executed and we struggled. He has been a nice little player, one of our developing players. For me personally, the highlight has been Rahkeem’s 100 at Kensington Oval. It’s time for us to sit down and ask ourselves if we have given 100%. I’m still with the Royals and I think the Royals is in good hands”, said Rovman Powell.
