Jamaica Tallawahs knocked out Saint Lucia Kings twice in two years in the Eliminator of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023. It was a good toss to win for Tallawahs, as the likes of Fabian Allen, Chris Green and Imad Wasim managed to trouble the opposition and restricted them to just 125/10. Allen, who registered his best-ever T20 figures of 4/25, was named Player of the Match in Tallawahs’s five-wicket win on Tuesday.

Batting first, Kings got off to a poor start as they lost opener Colin Munro early on. Unable to adapt to the slow track, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Only Roston Chase, who scored 40 off 36 balls, showed some resistance as none of the other batters managed to cross 20 runs. While Allen destroyed the lower middle to wrap up the innings quickly, Green, who picked up two wickets, did the damage early on, troubling the top order.

Meanwhile, West Indies all-rounder Allen entertained the crowd with a unique dance celebration after picking up his first wicket. His first victim of the night was rival skipper Sikandar Raza and he did not hesitate to celebrate in style. Raza was looking solid with making 12-ball 19, but Allen’s timely strike left the Kings in more trouble.

Raymon Reifer and Imad Wasim lead Tallawahs to a comfortable win

In response to Kings’ 125, Tallawahs skipper Brandon King and Alex Hales provided a solid start with a 43-run partnership in 4.1 overs. However, they slipped to 73/4, thanks to Matthew Forde’s brilliant effort. The Windies pacer took four wickets for 23 runs in his four overs and gave a serious scare for the opposition. But Raymon Reifer and Imad Wasim took their time and played smartly to keep things under control. Their 42-run stand took Tallawahs close to victory, eventually crossing the target with 16 balls to spare.

Allen, who won the POM for his four-wicket haul, said after the match: “Difficult surface. Bowling in the right areas paid off. That’s what big players do. We’re always ready for the challenge. Tonight was the night for me to execute. We’re confident. Last year we won from a similar situation. Hopefully we can do it again. We are unbeatable now.”
