‘Humari chhoriya chhoro se kam hai ke?’- Fans ecstatic as Mumbai smash Gujarat by 143 runs in first WTL match
In the first match of the Women’s T20 League, Mumbai put up an impressive performance by scoring a massive total of 207 runs for the loss of 5 wickets against Gujarat. The Mumbai batters came out all guns blazing and never let the Gujarat bowlers settle. Harmanpreet Kaur, Hayley Matthews, and Amelia Kerr led the charge for Mumbai with their power-packed batting.
Harmanpreet Kaur was the star of the show, as she hammered 65 runs off just 30 deliveries, hitting a staggering 14 fours in the process. Her innings was a treat to watch, as she played some exquisite strokes all around the park. Hayley Matthews, the West Indian all-rounder, was equally impressive, as she scored 47 runs off 31 deliveries, including 3 fours and 4 sixes. Her aggressive approach put the Gujarat bowlers under immense pressure right from the start.
Amelia Kerr, the New Zealand all-rounder, also contributed significantly to the Mumbai total, scoring an unbeaten 45 off just 24 deliveries. Her innings included 4 fours and 2 sixes and helped Mumbai to cross the 200-run mark.
In reply, Gujarat had the daunting task of chasing down 208 runs to win the match. However, they never got going and lost wickets at regular intervals. The Mumbai bowlers were too good for the Gujarat batters and restricted them to a meager total of 64 runs. No Gujarat batter could withstand the onslaught of the Mumbai bowlers, as they were bowled out in just 15.1 overs.
Mumbai won the match by a huge margin of 143 runs, which is a record in the Women’s T20 League. This comprehensive victory would give Mumbai a lot of confidence going forward in the tournament. Their batters, especially Harmanpreet Kaur, Hayley Matthews, and Amelia Kerr, would take a lot of positives from this match and look to continue their good form in the upcoming matches.
On the other hand, Gujarat would have to go back to the drawing board and analyze their performance. They need to come up with a better plan if they want to compete against the strong teams in the tournament. Overall, it was a one-sided affair, and Mumbai proved to be too good for Gujarat in all departments of the game.
