‘I call bull**** on that’- Meghan Schutt fires back at Harmanpreet Kaur for commenting on Australia’s body language
Australian pacer Megan Schutt has criticised Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s reaction after the Women in Blue’s defeat against Australia in the T20 World Cup semi-final. The Beth Mooney-inspired side went on to lift their record-extending sixth Women’s 20-20 World Cup title in South Africa, outclassing hosts South Africa in the thrilling final contested at Newlands in Cape Town.
Schutt praised Australian skipper Meg Lanning and took a dig at Harmanpreet, saying, “Harman said our body language was down. I’ll call bull**** on that. We’re just calm. We don’t panic, we don’t take it out on each other if there’s a misfield or a dropped catch. That’s where we stand out as a team. We’re a team first and we know getting angry about that isn’t going to do about that. So it was a collective effort.”
Harmanpreet had scored a crucial 52 off 34 balls in the semi-final against Australia, but her bizarre run-out triggered India’s collapse, and they failed to score 16 runs in the final over. Schutt suggested that Harmanpreet’s reaction set the wrong precedent for her teammates, saying, “It was wrong of Harman to follow that after (reaction after being given out). It sets the wrong precedent for those coming after.”
Alyssa Healy had taken a dig at India captain earlier
Schutt’s comments come after Australian wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy’s brutal dig at Harmanpreet, who had called the run-out “unlucky.” Healy had said, “Harmanpreet can say all she likes that it was so unlucky. But at the end of the day, that was our turning point. That’s where we won the game, in my opinion.”
Australia’s victory over South Africa in the final was their third successive title win, and they had previously won in 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2018. Schutt and Lanning were key players in their successful campaign, and their teamwork and composure under pressure were vital in their triumph.
While Schutt praised her team’s collective effort, she also took a dig at Harmanpreet’s reaction after the semi-final defeat, suggesting that it set the wrong precedent for her teammates. The 20-20 World Cup victory was a testament to Australia’s team-first approach and their ability to remain calm under pressure, which set them apart from their rivals.
