‘I just can’t bat with you’: Glenn Maxwell’s conversation with Virat Kohli goes viral
Bangalore squared off against Chennai in the 49th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the MCA Stadium in Pune. The Men in Red and Black fought hard in the match and earned a comfortable victory by 13 runs.
Chennai won the toss and put Bangalore to bat first. After a good start to their innings, Bangalore started losing wickets at regular intervals and their effort started to fall weak. But on the back of Mahipal Lomror’s breezy knock of 42 runs off 27 deliveries, they recovered and were to post 173 runs from their 20 overs.
While chasing the target Chennai started on a strong note, but their middle-order failed to show the resilience necessary to chase down the target successfully. Wickets kept tumbling in the middle overs and they started to lose their way. The only two batters who showed determination were Devon Conway (56 off 37) and Moeen Ali (34 off 27). But their efforts ended in a losing cause, as they were restricted to 160 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs. With the defeat in the match, the four-time champions of the Indian T20 League were officially eliminated from the championship race.
Notably, Maxwell was run out in the match by Robin Uthappa while he was batting at 3 off 3. Kohli was facing Ravindra Jadeja in the ninth over of the first innings. The striker stepped out tapping the ball in the cover region and set off for a single. Maxwell responded to Kohli’s call but could not reach the other end in time.
After the match, Maxwell was seen telling Kohli, that the latter runs too quickly for his liking. The conversation was a light-hearted one and the two shared a laugh after Maxwell’s comments. The video was uploaded on the social media platform of the Bangalore franchise, where Maxwell was saying – “I just can’t bat with you, you run too fast, you run too fast. You get ones and twos, I don’t.”
Meanwhile, Bangalore’s chances to make it to the top four are still alive. With the win against they are currently placed at number four with six wins from 11 matches. They will have the remaining of their matches to keep their hopes alive in the tournament.
