‘I will be surprised if India lose…’- Former India captain dismisses England’s comeback in ongoing Test series
The current Indian Test is known for their comebacks, whether it is the historic Australian triumph in 2020-21, the England tour of India in 2021 or the ongoing Anthony de Mello Trophy between India and England. The Indian team made a sensational comeback in these series from adverse conditions against top oppositions which speaks volumes about the resolve and the depth in this current Indian team.
India’s former captain Sourav Ganguly emphasized these qualities of the Indian team and lauded the players for stepping up when the chips were down. Before the series, India got a huge setback when their premier batter Virat Kohli was ruled out of the Test series due to the birth of his 2nd son and ODI World Cup’s highest wicket-taker Mohammed Shami was ruled out due to an ankle injury.
Under these circumstances, the young guns of India such as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan stepped up and played a significant role in thumping India to get a 2-1 lead in the series after losing the 1st Test.
Praising the performance of the Indian team, Sourav Ganguly said in a recent interview, “Jaiswal is not only a good player, he’s capable of playing all formats of the game.” He further stated, ” “Sarfaraz is a good example for budding cricketers, who must keep in mind that if they score consistently, they will get their chances.”
Sourav Ganguly applauded India’s approach in the 3rd Test where despite being pushed back on Day 2, India had the belief to make a comeback even without Ashwin as the veteran off-spinner had to fly home to attend his ailing mother. Ganguly said, “India are so confident that they allowed R Ashwin to go back home in the middle of a Test. India looks much more motivated in this series.”
Sourav Gangly convinced of an Indian victory
This England team is considered to be a dangerous team because of their aggressive all-or-nothing approach, which is even after getting a 2-1 lead in the series after a resounding in the 3rd test, fans and analysts still do not believe that it will be an easy walk on the road for the Indian team.
But Ganguly has shown his belief in this Indian team and is convinced that India will emerge victorious at the end of the five-match series. Sourav Ganguly said, “Bazball is good, but it’s difficult for England to be successful in Indian conditions. I will be surprised if India loses the series. Please remember that India are playing without Virat [Kohli], and KL [Rahul]. It’s a young team with many new faces, and yet, England are struggling.”
The fourth Test of the series will be played at Ranchi from 23rd February followed by the last one in Dharmsala.
