‘If somebody’s doing well, kudos to them’ – Jasprit Bumrah does not like ‘competition’ with James Anderson
After the defeat in Hyderabad, India bounced back in the second Test match against England in Visakhapatnam. Jasprit Bumrah emphasized his admiration for James Anderson’s quality fast bowling.
India won by 106 runs in Visakhapatnam Test. Jasprit Bumrah took a six-fer in the first innings and a three-fer in the second innings. Some of the dismissals are the absolute phenomenal including Ollie Pope’s in-swinging Yorker & wicket of English skipper Ben Stokes.
Bumrah expressed his appreciation for fast-bowling
“Before a cricketer, I’m a fast bowling fan. If somebody’s doing well, kudos to them. I look at the situation, at the wicket and think what are my options. I should not be a one-trick pony, Bumrah replied when asked about competition with the veteran pacer James Anderson. He had acknowledged his role as a leader.
In the Indian team, the transition phase is going through. After some time, players like Mohammed Shami and Ravichandran Ashwin will retire. Bumrah thinks he is the link between the new and older generations of Indian bowlers.
“We’re going through a transition so I feel it’s my responsibility to help them in any way I can,” Bumrah emphasized about his leadership role in the Indian team.
Bumrah did not play too many Test matches on home soil. Still, he has spectacular statistics. Which is very rare in subcontinental tracks. Bumrah’s ability to swing the bowl and his variations according to the pitches as a fast bowler is remarkable to watch.
He revealed his secret as a fast bowler, he said “As a youngster, that is the first delivery I learned (yorker). I used to think that it was the only way to get wickets.”
Bumrah also elaborates on the relationship between him and skipper Rohit Sharma on and off the field, which contributes to India’s success.
“As I said before, I don’t look at numbers. As a youngster, I did that and it made me excited. But now it’s an added baggage”. Bumrah said in the presentation ceremony.
