‘I’m always behind everybody’s back’ – Jasprit Bumrah shares his experience on bowling during matches
Every time India is in crisis, Jasprit Bumrah comes to their rescue. This time too, in the 1st Test match when Indian spinners weren’t performing in the 2nd innings, Bumrah came into the attack and took four wickets and gave away just 41 runs. Even though India lost the 1st match by 28 runs, his performance gave the team some confidence that in time of need, Bumrah will be there. While talking to the JioCinema broadcasters, Bumrah talked about his partnership with the spinners and how he’s always after them to finish the overs in time.
Bumrah said, “I’m always behind everybody’s back. In India, if the ball becomes soft, you have to take care of the ball. With the saliva rule not being there, it’s difficult to maintain the ball sometimes. I’m always behind the spinners… ‘bowl your overs quickly and shine the ball’. Because when it reverses, it will help us, and it will help them.”
Bumrah managed to generate a reverse swing in the second innings which frustrated the England batters. However, Ollie Pope survived his bowling and went on to score 196 runs off 208 balls. That was one amazing innings to pull off while others were just throwing away their wickets. Thanks to Pope’s score, England took a solid lead and then went on to defeat India by 28 runs.
‘I thought we batted well in the first innings’ – Rohit Sharma talks about team’s intent during toss
India’s captain, Rohit Sharma during the toss time talked about the team’s intent, and while they batted well in the 1st inning, couldn’t keep the momentum going in the second. On the other hand, Ollie Pope‘s fine innings of 196 runs was the main reason why India lost the match. Rohit also mentioned the fact that they don’t think about the past and are looking forward to playing the 2nd match.
Rohit said, “I thought we batted well in the first innings but didn’t have the same intent. Similarly, in the second innings with the bowl there was a brilliant knock by Ollie Pope.”
