The Victoria player made his Test debut only after playing eight First Class games for his state team. In his debut game in Nagpur, he took seven wickets while the rest of the six bowlers took the rest of the wickets combined.
Murphy’s bowling was the reason India lost five for 168 runs as he took the first four wickets. The right-arm off-spinner bowled 47 overs, gave away 124 runs, and took seven wickets. He also bowled 12 maidens.
