Former Pakistan skipper, Rashid Latif feels that Pakistan should play more Test matches as they have greater value as compared to the other two formats. He pointed out that the Pakistan play Test matches lesser than other countries and urged Pakistan Cricket to conduct more Test matches in the upcoming schedule.

“Pakistan is playing fewer test matches in recent years. PCB should schedule more test matches because test records have a high value. A test player of another country completes hundred test matches in a career of the decade but it doesn’t happen with Pakistani players” Journalist Arfa Feroz Zake, who works at Geo News, quoted Rashid Latif’s statement on Twitter.

He added that Pakistan should play more Tests against the top teams and also against the likes of Afghanistan and Zimbabwe. Later, he drew comparisons with India, stating that their arch-rivals don’t play against Pakistan but are playing Test matches against all the other nations.

“Pakistan should play the maximum number of test matches, especially against top test nations and even against Afghanistan and Zimbabwe. India is not playing test matches with Pakistan but India is playing with everyone else.” the Pakistan cricketer added.

Notably, Pakistan played 9 Tests in the year 2021 and won 7 out of them. In comparison, teams like India, England and Australia played 14, 15 and 5 respectively. Pakistan recently played a 3-match Test series against Australia at home. The first two Tests resulted in draws, while the last Test match was won by Australia by 115 runs.

Pakistan will next face West Indies for 3 ODIs from 8th June to 12th June 2022. Pakistan will be playing their next Test series against Sri Lanka in July 2022. They don’t have any Test series scheduled after that until the end of the year. It’s also because of the fact that ICC 20-20 World Cup 2022 is scheduled this year and Pakistan would want to play as many T20 internationals as possible.
