Former English captain Michael Vaughan recently labelled India as underachievers once again after the T20 World Cup 2022 mishap in the semi-finals. India recently lost the first test match of their tour of South Africa on the third day as the latter won the match by an innings after winning the ODI series against the Proteas.

Vaughan highlighted that even though India have won the test series in Australia and recently even the border trophy in 2023, they have failed to win any major tournament. He also highlighted how India failed to lift the ODI World Cup 2023 trophy even though India won all the matches throughout the tournament.

Michael Vaughan on Indian Team’s recent performances in International cricket

“Do you think, in terms of cricket, India is one of the most underachieving sports teams in the world? They haven’t won much in recent times. I think they are (an underachieving side). They don’t win anything. When was the last time they won something? With all the talent they have, all the skill-set (they should have achieved more),” said Vaughan.

“They’ve won in Australia twice (Test series in 2018/19 and 2020/21). Magnificent. But in the last few World Cups, (they have) been nowhere, in the last few T20 World Cups, (they have) been nowhere. They’re a good team. They have got plenty of talent but with all the talent they have and the resources they have, I just don’t think they win,” he added.

Previously after the semi-final loss of T-20 World Cup 2022, Vaughan called India underachievers for the first time and said, “Since winning the 50 over World Cup on home soil in 2011 what have they done? Nothing. India are playing a white-ball game that is dated and has been done for years. How they have not maximised someone like Rishabh Pant is incredible. In this era, put him up the top to launch it.”
