India defeated England in the 2nd Test match in Visakhapatnam by 106 runs and levelled the 5-match series, 1-1. In the second innings, Shubman Gill’s century (104) helped India set a target of 399 runs. Like always, England started their chase with the Bazball approach, however, kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The batters couldn’t convert their short cameos into something huge for England to win the match. Before day 4 started, England was confident about chasing down the massive target.

But Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah had some other plans. As the visitors came to bat, Ashwin tried hard to deceive the openers and dismiss them. Fortunately, his trick worked and Ben Duckett lost his wicket. Once he got dismissed, all the other batters failed to form a partnership that could have helped them win the match. Zak Crawley tried his best to keep the match going as he scored 73 runs off 132 balls. However, due to a lack of support from the other end, he was dismissed too.

As the England team had high hopes for Captain Ben Stokes, he lost his wicket carelessly. After he lost his wicket, Ben Foakes gave a tough fight as he played until the last moment before getting dismissed by Bumrah. Tom Hartley took the team’s responsibility, however, lost his wicket to Bumrah again. One of the reasons behind England’s loss is Jasprit Bumrah’s fantastic bowling and for his consistent hard work, he was awarded the Player of the Match.

‘When you win a game like that, you have to look at the overall performance as well’ – Captain Rohit Sharma praises the players post-match

After a marvellous win against England in the 2nd Test match in Visakhapatnam, Rohit Sharma did his captaincy duty by praising all the players of the team. In the post-match presentation, he praised the entire team for their collective efforts and also talked about the team’s atmosphere and the pitch’s condition. Moreover, he emphasized a lot on Bumrah as he was the Player of the Match.

Rohit said, “He is a champion player for us (Bumrah). When you win a game like that, you have to look at the overall performance as well. We were good with the bat. You know winning a Test in these conditions is not easy. Wanted our bowlers to step up and they did that. He looks like a good player and understands his game really well. Long way to go for him, has got a lot to offer for our team. Hope he stays humble.”
