The Indian Cricket Board on Wednesday, August 2 posted the advertisements for bowling and fielding coach posts for the Indian women’s cricket team on its website. The deadline to submit the application is 6 PM, August 10. The candidates have to submit the application before the deadline ends.

The Indian Cricket Board’s cricket advisory which consists of Sulakshana Naik, Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape will then interview and shortlist the candidates. There are also some reports which suggest that former Indian domestic cricket star Amol Muzumdar is in contention to become the Indian women’s cricket team batting coach for the upcoming Asian Games 2023 which is set to take place in Hangzhou, China in September.

The Indian Cricket Board secretary Jai Shah earlier said that they have a name for the Indian women’s cricket team head coach but the board will still conduct a few interviews for the bowling and fielding coach posts.

“The CAC had recommended a name for the post of head coach of the Indian women’s team, the Board will conduct interviews for the post of batting, bowling and fielding coaches of the India women’s team, and then announce the names of the entire support staff of the side, before the Asian Games in September.” Shah was quoted as saying by Times Of India.

India’s poor performance against Bangladesh

Talking about Muzumdar, he has represented Mumbai, Assam and Andhra Pradesh during his phenomenal domestic career. Muzumdar is one of the legendary domestic players who has brilliant records. He has played 171 first-class matches and scored 11167 runs at an average of 48.13 which included 30 centuries. He also won 8 Ranji Trophy titles with Mumbai in 15 years.

The addition of Muzumdar might help the Indian women’s batters as they displayed a poor batting performance in the recently concluded series against Bangladesh. The 3-match ODI series between both teams ended in a draw 1-1. It was a major setback for the Women in Blue as they were playing with their full-strength squad.
