 Indian Cricket Board takes ‘revolution’ decision for women cricketers

India’s Women’s team has been doing well at the highest level in the last few years, In 2017 and 2018, they qualified for the final of the ODI World Cup and the semis of the 20-20 World Cup respectively. Two years later, they played in the final of the 20-20 World Cup where they lost to Australia. In July this year, they bagged a silver medal in the Commonwealth Games.

Meanwhile, the Indian Cricket Board has been criticized for not giving equal pay to their men and women players. In the era where equal pay has become a norm in a few organizations, the board has decided to do the same. Board secretary, Jay Shah took to Twitter and announced that they are taking their first step towards pay discrimination by equalizing the men’s and women’s players pay. Further int the tweet, he also announced the eves will get after the policy implementation.

“I’m pleased to announce Indian cricket board’s first step towards tackling discrimination. We are implementing pay equity policy for our contracted Indian women cricketers. The match fee for both Men and Women Cricketers will be same as we move into a new era of gender equality in Cricket,” Shah tweeted.

“The Indian Women cricketers will be paid the same match fee as their male counterparts. Test (INR 15 lakhs), ODI (INR 6 lakhs), T20I (INR 3 lakhs). Pay equity was my commitment to our women cricketers and I thank the Apex Council for their support. Jai Hind,” he tweeted further.

Meanwhile, early this month, the Women In Blue won their seventh Asia Cup title, beating Sri Lanka in the final. Notably, apart from India, only Bangladesh has the distinction to win the continental tournament. The Bangladesh Tigers did it in 2018, beating the then-defending champions, India. However, the India eves have reclaimed the title.
